Injuries Latest Thu 10th May 2001 15:23
Marcus Stewart has gone back into light training and looks as if he will be OK for the crunch game with Derby. The Town striker missed out against Mancester City with a thigh problem sustained in the Charlton game.
Town 2-1 City Tue 08th May 2001 00:07
Appropriately enough, two goals at the North Stand end saw Town to victory and condemned Manchester City to Division One. Exactly a year ago today Town were condemning Walsall to the Second Division while City beat Blackburn Rovers to make Town go through the anguish of the play-offs once more as they entered the Premier League.
TXU Energi New Sponsor Wed 02nd May 2001 11:16
Town have revealed their new sponsors as TXU Energi, part of the same group as Eastern Energy, as rumoured here yesterday. The company is part of the TXU Europe group along with Eastern and Norweb. The deal will cover three years and could be worth up to £4 million.
Charlton 2-1 Town Tue 01st May 2001 01:00
The Blues will have been disappointed to come away from the Valley without even so much as a point on an evening when they dominated large parts of the game. For the first twenty minutes Charlton hardly got a kick, but despite this found themselves a goal up through Matt Svensson.
Town 2-0 Coventry Sat 21st Apr 2001 17:58
The Blues place in Europe was confirmed as they beat a lacklustre Coventry side as Southampton drew with Aston Villa. Goals from Martijn Reuser and Jermaine Wright, his first at Portman Road, saw Town home as Coventry's twin threat of John Hartson and former Canary Craig Bellamy was kept at bay.
Boro 1-2 Town Mon 16th Apr 2001 18:19
Two goals from ex-Boro man Alun Armstrong straight after the break saw Town beat a woeful Middlesbrough side on a very cold and windy day at the Riverside Stadium. The home team had gone ahead in the first half completely against the run of play through Dean Windass.
Town 1-0 Newcastle Sat 14th Apr 2001 18:47
An afternoon when more than just a victory was celebrated saw Town get back to third in the table. Town weren’t always at their slick best, as illustrated at Southampton two weeks’ ago, but they did enough to deserve a win over Bobby Robson’s Newcastle side.
Town 1-1 Liverpool Tue 10th Apr 2001 22:35
A late Alun Armstrong goal gave Town a point in a game they probably should have won. A goalless first half had seen Town the better side but despite a good chance falling to Marcus Stewart the deadlock couldn't be broken. Emile Heskey put Liverpool ahead straight after half-time.
No Name Change.... Yet Thu 05th Apr 2001 10:04
Town have denied that Portman Road is set to change name, although they have admitted it has been discussed and that it could change in the future. Yesterday it was reported that as part of a new sponsorhip deal Portman Road would be named after the sponsors. The report also said that Greene King had been priced out of the market.
Saints 0-3 Town Mon 02nd Apr 2001 23:06
A fabulous Marcus Stewart hat-trick gave Town the points as the Blues dominated from virtually start to finish. Town went in one-up at the break and added two more in the second half. In truth it could have been many, many more against a Southampton side clearly reeling from the departure of Glenn Hoddle.
